Important Changes to our Council Tax Reduction Scheme
If you or your partner have a Self Employed income and wish to carry out a trial calculation for Council Tax Reduction, please contact our office on 0121 704 8200 for further advice.
This change does not affect Housing Benefit; you may proceed with a trial Calculation for Housing Benefit only.
For further details about our scheme please refer to our scheme document for 2023-24 Here
If you are of working age or a mixed age couple (where one of you is over Pension Credit qualifying age and the other of you is under that age) you will need to apply for Universal Credit instead of Housing Benefit. Your Housing costs will be paid within your Universal Credit Payment unless:
- you are living in specified or exempt accommodation
- you are living in temporary accommodation
- as a mixed age couple you were entitled to Pension Credit and Housing Benefit in a different Local Authority area at 14 May 2019 and you are still entitled to Pension Credit and Housing Benefit when you move into the Solihull area after 15 May 2019
If you fall into any of the above categories you will qualify for making a claim for Housing Benefit. In all cases if you are liable to pay Council Tax you must apply separately for Council Tax Reduction from Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
